VRM Housing Liner

AGICO custom VRM housing liner with curved and segmented wear plates

CUSTOM REPLACEMENT WEAR PROTECTION

Custom VRM Housing Wear Plate from AGICO Cement

The VRM housing wear plate (also called the vertical mill housing liner, mill shell liner, or casing wear plate) is a replaceable liner that protects selected internal casing areas from abrasive dust, circulating particles, falling material, and localized impact. It takes the routine wear before it reaches the structural housing, so maintenance teams can inspect and replace a smaller component instead of repeatedly repairing a large casing area.

AGICO Cement supplies each custom VRM housing liner for cement raw mills, clinker and cement grinding mills, coal mills, slag mills and other vertical grinding systems. The plate shape, curvature, thickness, hole pattern, edge profile and fastening method are developed from customer drawings, serviceable samples, templates or verified site dimensions.

This is not a universal off-the-shelf liner. Each installation position can have a different radius, wear rate and access limit. The quotation therefore defines the plate positions, material route, required quantity and inspection scope before production. Send the available drawing or sample information to receive an application-based review.

How a VRM Housing Liner Protects the Mill Casing

Inside a vertical roller mill, the grinding table moves material outward while the internal gas stream carries fine particles toward the separator. Coarse returns, falling material, and gas-borne dust may load different elevations and circumferential positions of the housing. This creates an uneven wear pattern rather than one identical condition around the complete casing.

A segmented VRM housing liner, or vertical roller mill housing liner, places a selected wear-resistant material between that process stream and the structural casing. The liner does not depend on a universal self-hardening effect. It works as a replaceable wear barrier whose thickness and condition can be checked during a planned shutdown.

Correct fit is as important as material hardness. Unsupported edges, oversized gaps, protruding fasteners or an incorrect curvature can concentrate wear and make replacement difficult. A practical design follows the measured housing profile, leaves workable installation clearances, and divides the liner into pieces that can pass through the maintenance opening.

DIMENSIONS & SUPPLY BASIS

VRM Housing Liner Specifications

The following specification fields help define a replacement VRM housing liner for vertical roller mill service. They are selection references, not guaranteed stock values. Final dimensions, material grade, tolerance, fasteners, and acceptance criteria are recorded on the approved drawing or purchase specification.

For the fastest review, identify every liner by its installation position. A position map prevents similar curved plates from being mixed during measurement, production, packing, or shutdown installation. It also allows the plant to order only the highest-consumption positions when a complete set is not required.

MATERIAL DECISION

Material Options for Mill Housing Liners

No single material is best for every wear plate for VRM housing duty. Fine-particle abrasion, coarse-particle impact, temperature, backing support, fastening and the plant’s replacement practice all affect the decision. A harder surface may resist abrasion, but a brittle or poorly supported plate can crack around holes and edges.

The material comparison below explains three common routes in buyer-friendly terms. Hardness values measured on different scales should not be treated as a complete service-life comparison. Ceramic or other composite systems should be offered only after their construction, attachment method and relevant service evidence have been confirmed for the specific position.

Material note: compare the complete material construction and installation duty, not hardness alone.

CUSTOM ENGINEERING SUPPORT

Why Choose AGICO for a Custom VRM Housing Liner

A custom liner project succeeds when the supplier controls the interfaces that determine fit and replacement. The following services turn incomplete site information into a confirmed supply scope without relying on unsupported performance promises.

Drawing and Sample Review

AGICO checks the overall contour, radius, plate boundaries, bolt centers, counterbores, contact faces and access limitations. When the OEM drawing is unavailable, a serviceable sample, template, photographs and reliable reference dimensions can support a preliminary replacement drawing for customer approval.

Material Recommendation

AGICO compares the observed wear pattern, impact level, operating temperature, backing condition and fastening method before recommending a feasible material route. The recommendation is recorded with the quotation instead of being presented as one universal grade for every mill.

Position-Based Manufacturing

AGICO uses the approved position map to control different geometries in one liner set. Matching codes can be placed on the drawing, finished plates and packing list so maintenance teams can identify each part during a shutdown.

Inspection and Delivery Support

AGICO confirms the critical dimensions and required documents before production. Depending on the order, the delivery package can include dimensional records, material or hardness documents, position marking, an installation map and a packing list.

PROCESS MATCHED TO MATERIAL

Manufacturing and Quality Control for VRM Housing Liners

The manufacturing process must match the selected material. Abrasion-resistant plate may require cutting, forming, drilling and local machining. An alloy casting follows pattern, melting, pouring, heat-treatment and machining steps. A steel-backed hardfaced plate requires controlled overlay production, cutting and hole or edge treatment suitable for the final fastening design.

The approved drawing is reviewed before production to identify dimensions that affect installation: overall contour, curvature, plate-to-plate gap, hole position, fastener seating and contact surfaces. Inspection may include dimensional checks, visual examination, hardness testing and material verification when these items are included in the purchase specification.

Non-destructive examination is not described as one automatic package for every liner. The applicable method, inspected area, procedure and acceptance level depend on the material, geometry and contract. This keeps the quality plan relevant to the actual product rather than making a broad claim that cannot apply to every manufacturing route.

WHERE HOUSING PROTECTION IS NEEDED

Vertical Roller Mill Housing Liner Applications

A custom VRM casing wear plate can be used wherever the internal housing needs a replaceable wear boundary. The position and material should follow the actual mill arrangement and inspection history, not only the equipment name.

Cement Raw Material VRM

Housing liners protect zones exposed to circulating limestone, clay, corrective materials and coarse returns. Dividing the set by elevation and circumference helps the plant match spare quantities to the positions that wear fastest.

Clinker and Cement Grinding VRM

Fine abrasive cement particles can gradually erode unprotected internal surfaces. Replaceable liners keep that routine wear on identified parts that can be inspected and renewed during a planned overhaul.

Coal Grinding VRM

Selected housing zones may be exposed to fine particles carried by the internal gas stream. Material, attachment and inspection practice must follow the specific mill design, temperature, operating procedure and plant safety requirements.

Slag and Mineral Grinding VRM

Slag and mineral duties may combine strong abrasion with variable impact. Feed condition, recirculating load, temperature and recorded wear should be reviewed before selecting the liner material and fastening arrangement.

LIFECYCLE PLANNING

VRM Casing Liner Maintenance and Replacement

Record the original thickness and position code of every segmented VRM housing liner. During shutdowns, measure the remaining thickness, check fasteners and backing support, and note positions that are wearing faster than the rest. This history supports better spare quantities and more focused material changes for the next order.

A wear plate for VRM housing protects against routine service wear; it is not a substitute for structural repair. Cracks, deformation, damaged threads or serious thickness loss in the main casing should be assessed and repaired under an approved site procedure before a new liner is installed.

Plants can order a complete mapped set or selected high-wear positions, subject to manufacturing and packing requirements. Consistent position codes should remain unchanged from measurement through drawing approval, production, packing and installation so similar plates are not mixed.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions About Mill Housing Liners

What is the difference between a mill housing liner and a grinding table liner?

The housing plate protects selected internal casing surfaces from particle erosion, abrasion and localized impact. A grinding table liner works in the primary grinding zone under direct roller pressure. Their shape, loading and replacement criteria are different, so they are not interchangeable parts.

Can you make a wear plate for VRM housing without the original drawing?

A preliminary drawing can be developed from a serviceable sample, template, photographs and verified site measurements. Critical mounting dimensions and interfaces must be approved before production.

Which material is best for a VRM housing wear plate?

There is no universal best grade. Abrasion, impact, temperature, backing support, fastening and replacement practice determine whether wear-resistant steel, an alloy casting or a steel-backed hardfaced plate is more suitable.

Can the existing bolt holes be reused?

They can often be retained when their condition, position and thread details are verified. Elongated holes, damaged threads or casing deformation should be corrected before installing the replacement liner.

Can we order individual liner positions instead of a complete set?

Yes. A plant can request a complete mapped set or selected high-wear positions, subject to the minimum manufacturing, marking and packing requirements for the chosen route.

How are different VRM casing wear plates identified?

Use one position-code system on the approved drawing, finished parts, packing list and installation map. The same codes should also be used during site measurement and shutdown replacement.

What should we send for a quotation?

Send the mill model, available drawing or sample details, clear photographs, installation positions, required quantities, operating conditions, preferred material or service target, required documents and delivery destination.
