The grinding table liner is the wear-resistant layer installed on the surface of the VRM grinding table. Think of it as the “shoe” of the grinding table. The table itself is a large, expensive cast steel part. The liner protects it from direct wear. When the liner wears out, you replace only the liner — not the whole table.
Unlike the roller shell, which is one or two pieces per roller, the table liner is segmented—typically divided into 20 pieces arranged in a ring around the table. This is a key difference: you don’t replace one big piece; you replace individual segments. This saves time and money.
AGICO has supplied VRM wear parts for over 20 years. Our table liners fit all major brands: Loesche, Pfeiffer, Polysius, ATOX, HRM, LM, ZGM.
How the VRM Table Liner Works
The table liner is fixed onto the grinding table surface. As the table rotates, material is fed onto the center and moves outward under centrifugal force, forming a material bed. The grinding roller (with roller shell) presses down onto this bed. The liner provides the hard surface that the roller presses against.
The roller shell is the upper grinding surface, and the table liner is the lower grinding surface. They work as a pair. The material is squeezed between them and ground into powder.
The liner also has a retaining ring around its outer edge. This ring keeps the material bed at the right thickness. By adjusting the ring height, you control the grinding efficiency.

Why Vertical Mill Table Liner Design Matters
Because the table liner is segmented, each piece must fit perfectly with the next. Poorly designed liners cause problems:
| Problem | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Uneven wear between segments | Some pieces wear out faster; others are still good. But you can replace only the worn ones. |
| Loose segments | Vibration, damage to the table surface |
| Poor material bed | Lower grinding efficiency, more power used |
| Retaining ring wear | Material bed too thin; roller touches liner directly |
AGICO designs our table liners to avoid these problems. Each segment is machined precisely, numbered for its position, and tested for hardness and quality.
Material of Grinding Table Liners
The choice of material is the most important decision for your table liner. Different materials suit different working conditions. AGICO offers four main material options:
| Material | Best for | Hardness | Can Be Repaired? | Relative Life |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High Chrome Cast Iron | Coal, raw meal (low to medium wear) | HRC 55–62 | No | 1x (baseline) |
| Ni-Hard Cast Iron | Cement clinker, medium wear | HRC 50–60 | No | 1–1.2x |
| Hardfacing Alloy Steel | Slag, high wear, need for repair | HRC 58–68 | Yes, 3-4 times | 1.5–2x (with re-welds) |
| Ceramic Composite | Extreme wear, quartz-rich materials | HRA 85+ | No | 2–3x |
How to Choose the Right Material
- For coal or raw meal grinding: High chrome cast iron is enough. It gives good wear life at a lower cost.
- For cement clinker: Ni-hard cast iron or high chrome works well.
- For slag or high-wear materials: Choose hardfacing alloy steel. It costs more upfront, but you can re-weld it 3-4 times, saving money over the long term.
- For quartz-rich slag or extremely hard materials: Choose ceramic composites. It lasts 2-3 times longer than steel, but it cannot be repaired.

Advantages of AGICO Cement Vertical Mill Table Liner
High Hardness for Slow, Steady Wear
AGICO uses high-quality materials and strict heat treatment to achieve hardness up to HRC 55–68 (about 750 HV). This means the liner wears slowly and evenly, even when grinding hard materials like slag or clinker. You get more running hours between replacements.
Segmented Design – Replace Only What Is Worn
Our table liner comes in segments (typically 20 pieces per set). When one piece is worn, you replace only that piece — not the whole set. This saves you a significant amount of money over the life of the mill. Each segment is clearly numbered (No. 1, No. 2, … No. 20) for fast, error-free installation.
Precision CNC Machining for a Perfect Fit
We use CNC machining to ensure each segment fits tightly against its neighbors. There are no gaps, no loose pieces, and no vibration. A tight fit also prevents damage to the grinding table surface underneath the liner, protecting your most expensive mill component.
Quality Inspection Before Delivery
Every single segment is tested before leaving our factory. We check hardness, chemical composition, and internal defects using UT (ultrasonic testing), MT (magnetic particle testing), and PT (dye penetrant testing). You receive a complete material test report with your order—full traceability and peace of mind.
Retaining Ring Included – Customize Your Material Bed
We supply the retaining ring together with the liner. You can choose the ring height based on your specific material and grinding needs. The correct ring height keeps the material bed at the ideal thickness, which means better grinding efficiency and less wear on both the liner and the roller shell.
Proven Experience & Customization
AGICO has been manufacturing VRM wear parts for over 20 years. We understand how different mills operate and what causes wear. Our team can recommend the best material for your specific working conditions. We also accept custom orders based on your drawings or worn samples. You are not just buying a product—you are getting a wear solution.

FAQ about VRM Grinding Table Liner
Q1: What is the difference between roller shell and table liner?
A: They work as a pair. The roller shell is mounted on the roller and moves. The table liner is fixed on the grinding table and stays still. The material is ground between them.
Q2: How many pieces are in a complete set of table liner?
A: Typically 20 pieces. The number can be different depending on your mill model. We can customize the quantity.
Q3: Can I replace only one piece of the liner?
A: Yes. That is the main advantage of segmented design. You don’t need to replace the whole set. Just replace the worn piece.
Q4: How long does an AGICO table liner last?
A: 8,000–15,000 hours, depending on your material and operation. Ceramic composite lasts 2-3 times longer.
Q5: Can a worn table liner be repaired?
A: Yes, for hardfacing alloy type. You can weld a new hard layer on the worn surface without removing the liner from the mill. Each liner can be re-welded 3-4 times.
Q6: What is the retaining ring for?
A: It controls the thickness of the material bed. Correct bed thickness gives the best grinding efficiency. We supply rings in different heights.
Q7: Can AGICO make liners according to my drawing?
A: Yes. We accept custom orders. We can also make from your worn samples.
Q8: What is the lead time?
A: Standard 30–45 days. Contact us for urgent needs.
Q9: Do you supply other VRM parts?
A: Yes. We supply roller shells, rocker arms, separators, roller hubs, and bearings.
