Custom Cement Ball Mill Diaphragm
AGICO manufactures high-quality cement ball mill diaphragms – a core component of a ball mill. The diaphragm is installed between mill compartments, dividing the grinding cylinder into several sections to achieve staged grinding of materials. Made of high-strength wear-resistant materials, our diaphragm improves grinding efficiency and equipment stability while reducing maintenance costs.
The performance of the ball mill diaphragm affects not only its service life and mill operating rate but also the grinding efficiency of the entire mill. With years of industry experience and professional process knowledge, AGICO is committed to providing reliable, high-performance diaphragm products. We also offer material selection consultation based on your specific working conditions.

Separating Grinding Media
As material moves from the mill inlet to the outlet, particle size gradually decreases. The diaphragm separates grinding bodies of different sizes, preventing them from mixing. This ensures that large balls crush coarse particles while small balls grind fine particles.
Screening Materials
The diaphragm acts as a sieve, preventing oversized particles from entering the fine grinding chamber, where the impact force is weaker. Slots on the diaphragm retain materials larger than the slot width, allowing only properly ground material to pass to the next chamber.
Controlling Flow Velocity
The slot size and open area determine how fast material moves through the mill, thus affecting grinding time. Proper slot width, length, area, and arrangement help control material and air flow while maintaining a good grinding media-to-material ratio. A large centre opening also reduces pressure drop and improves energy efficiency.
Types of Cement Mill Diaphragm
Based on different structures and installation positions, diaphragms are mainly divided into the following two types:

Single-Layer Diaphragm
The single-layer diaphragm consists of fan-shaped baffles connected by a central circular plate. The outer ring baffles are fixed to the inner wall of the mill body with bolts, while the inner ring baffles are installed in the notches of the outer ring baffles. The central circular plate and the annular fixing ring are fastened together with bolts to the inner ring baffles. This simple and reliable structure is suitable for cement grinding under normal working conditions.

Double-Layer Diaphragm
The double-layer diaphragm consists of a set of blind plates and a set of grate plates. The double-layer structure creates a space between the coarse and fine grinding chambers, allowing better material classification and flow control. It is ideal for applications requiring higher cement fineness and specific surface area. Common types include double-layer intermediate diaphragms and outlet diaphragms.
Design Features of AGICO Diaphragm / Grate Plate
Drawing on advanced design principles, AGICO offers diaphragms with the following features:
Long-Lasting and Low Maintenance
The grate plates are made of highly ductile, wear-resistant heat-treated alloy steel. Under normal conditions (producing ordinary Portland cement from clinker and gypsum), the estimated service life is up to 18,000 hours for grates and 36,000 hours for liners.
Adjustable lifters can be individually adjusted radially, maintaining proper material level and avoiding excessive wear on grates, shell liners, and ball charge. The sturdy design includes a cast-steel retainer ring bolted to the mill shell, a heavy supporting plate with spacer pipes, and a steel front plate for rigidity.
Higher Efficiency and Higher Productivity
Large grate area enables a high circulation factor. The 8mm slots are slightly conical (increased width in the flow direction) to minimize blockage risk. These features result in lower energy consumption, less maintenance, and higher productivity, reducing operating costs and improving sustainability. The segmented retainer uses a single row of bolt holes and fits different drilling patterns without making extra holes.

Advantages of Ball Mill Diaphragm
Higher mill output – Proper flow control and optimized media distribution significantly increase output.
Lower energy consumption – Optimized ventilation and grate open area reduce power consumption per ton of cement.
Better cement quality – Prevents over-grinding, improves particle uniformity, and increases specific surface area.
Longer service life – High wear-resistant materials extend life by more than 30%, reducing replacement frequency.
Lower maintenance costs – Sturdy, anti-blocking design reduces downtime and cleaning needs.
Materials and Production Process
AGICO diaphragms can be made from various wear-resistant materials, including high manganese steel (grades Mn13Cr2, Mn14Cr2, Mn18Cr2), high-chromium cast iron, multi-element alloy steel, and composite materials. Products can be produced according to standard drawings or customized based on customer drawings.
After casting, diaphragms generally require only surface cleaning and burr polishing – no machining needed. We have advanced equipment: 3–10m hobbing machines, submerged arc welding machines, heat treatment electric furnaces, CNC vertical lathes, and full inspection systems (mechanical testing, impact testing, UT, MT, etc.).
